Access to Safe WaterWork on protected dug-well has begun in a remote area north west of gadap town (6 km off northern by-pass) to facilitate the villagers by providing easy access to water and help them cultivate seasonal crops on their small land. This is part of M:RP's initiatives on extending support towards making clean water available. Gadap is a town (part of Karachi City and at its border) forming the provincial border between Sindh and Balochistan. Further on its sides are Dadu District and the Kirthar Mountains. The village's strength is about 200 people. Project will be completed in 2 weeks time from today (October 11, 2009). Photos below gives a pictorial idea about the terrain and surroundings along with the progress made on the project.
Water sample being collected by the farmer and his son. The water was tested at a lab and found to be rich in minerals with no arsenic or poisonous contents Monday, October 26, 2009 (project extended - addition of two small storage tanks - one seen in pictures below) Well being protected with cement block lining...
(Mini tank constructed near the village/settlements - The two tanks would next be connected through pipe)
Friday, November 20, 2009 Trenches have been dug up to lay underground PVC pipelines in order to supply water to the villagers.
